I started this series of miniature flower vases in soft pastel. I love the color blue especially cobalt blue. When I start a painting I let the pastels dictate the theme of my painting through the colors and layers of pastel on the paper. The painting takes a life of its own. Capturing the nuances of color and light with pastel in a miniature format can be difficult but worth it. A one inch window of flowers.
I started painting miniature soft pastel paintings in 2013 and was fascinated by the brilliance of the pastel pigments in such a small format. It is much more difficult capturing a seascape and or landscape scene in a one inch by one inch pastel paper with soft pastel vs. painting a 30 inch by 40 inch pastel painting. I have a special place in my heart for this new fond love of mine with my pastel artwork.
